About This Site

My original site records the history of my parents' families, Dunkerley of Oldham and Failsworth and Tuson of Penwortham, Failsworth and Hollinwood.

Merged with this site is one relating to my own life - it has stories about my time as a geologist active in mineral exploration, especially relating to alluvial gold, the Aguas Tenidas copper/zinc mine of Spain, and the Choquelimpie gold/silver mine and Andacollo gold mine, both in Chile.

It also has over one hundred poems I have written, a selection of poems I enjoy and a major section on Lancashire dialect - the language of my forebears.

Get involved in Family History

There is so much information appearing on the internet, both of a kind useful for research and also listings of information about individual people, that much in Family History can now be done from home (see, for example, here). But get involved and help! I carry out voluntary transcribing of the UK Civil Registration Index under the FreeBMD project.

This aims to make available, free, the whole of the births, marriages and deaths index from its start on 1st July 1837 until 1983. So far it is largely complete up to nearly 1960 and progress is taking place in the next decade. Volunteeers are always welcome.

I started transcribing for FreeBMD in March 2004. As of 1st December 2013 my tally of entries contributed to FreeBMD is over 555,000.
